Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs2019-04-06T21:20:27+00:00
What kind of traveling experience should I expect with Intercity?2019-04-06T19:33:04+00:00

Stretch out and prepare yourself for seamless, stress-free travel. This is the “black car experience” – relaxing, personalized and convenient.

Drivers arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your departure time. After confirming the driver using the details in your app, he or she will check your photo ID and you’ll be on your way. Our vehicles are always clean and roomy with complimentary water and ample charging for your electronic devices. Most professionals use their own hot spots for faster speeds, but some vehicles may provide wifi as well. We welcome your feedback, as we are always looking for ways to improve the overall experience for our riders.

What type of vehicles do you use and how many seats are there per vehicle?2019-04-06T21:05:46+00:00

The vehicles will vary based on the number of passengers sharing the ride. All of the vehicles are late models with leather seats, cup holders and charging stations for phones and laptops. Also, very important, your comfort is a priority so we sell no middle seats… ever.

How does your Same-Day Round Trip service work?2019-04-06T21:06:27+00:00

It works exactly the way it sounds – we take you from your departure city to your destination city and back in the same day. We hope to alleviate your need to drive yourself or stay out of town overnight when that wouldn’t otherwise be necessary. Our vehicles often return midday for trips with early-morning departures (return around 1:00pm EST) and at the end of the day for trips with late-morning departures (return around 5:00pm EST).

What if I need different routes, pick-up/drop-off points or departure/return times?2019-04-06T21:07:06+00:00

Our routes are set according to repeated travel trends. But if you desire a route or schedule that is not displayed, it’s simple – just tell us from where and to where you’d like to go and the timing of your schedule. We’ll coordinate with our drivers and set that trip up for you. In rare cases where we cannot accommodate your request, we will communicate that to you immediately so that you will have the maximum amount of time to make alternate arrangements.

Why isn’t Intercity a door-to-door service?2019-04-06T21:07:36+00:00

Here at Intercity, we focus on efficiently bridging the gap between cities by creating a digital infrastructure among car service companies that are already in the business of transporting people. Once you are in a metropolitan area, many options already exist to get you to your final destination: public transportation, Uber, Lyft, taxis, scooters, bikes, etc. We keep our costs low by focusing on the things that bring the most value to our riders and then executing and optimizing on those value points.

That said, if all of the riders in your vehicle are going to the same final destination – or each rider and the driver all independently-agree on a new drop-off point – then, by all means, feel free to coordinate that in real time. Drop-off destinations are only predetermined so that we can better systemize and optimize all of our trips ahead of time.

Is Intercity expensive?2019-04-06T21:08:04+00:00

For a passenger traveling round trip city-to-city, we are considerably less expensive than air travel, black car or other ridesharing services. Our clients also often can do billable work on our trips, instead wasting time behind the wheel.

On a typical ride (~5 hours round trip), Intercity costs only $50 total out-of-pocket after federal reimbursement for work travel. Is $10/hour worth getting 5 whole hours of your life back, using your time for whatever’s most important to you? Just think about what you might to with an extra 5 hours in the day, in addition to what you’ll get to do later now that you’ve used that time wisely.

Let’s briefly explore your alternate options:

Passenger trains are much slower and often run behind schedule (which can bottleneck your planning), not to mention only leaving one time per day usually.

When you drive yourself, you’re hostage behind the steering wheel and, as a result, the opportunity cost of all the things you’re not getting done increases in direct proportion to the length of your trip.

On a flight which has 30 minutes of actual airtime, the total process door to door is approximately 2 1/2 hours one way. You’ll have 5x the amount of productivity – say, working on your laptop – riding with Intercity than you would with commercial flights on distances too long to drive but too short to fly.

How can Intercity be more affordable than black car services or other ridesharing companies like Uber or Lyft?2019-04-06T21:08:43+00:00

Uber and Lyft specialize in travel within cities and are not optimized for city-to-city travel. You are not likely to find another rider going to a nearby city and returning the same day on any other ridesharing app in the market.

Though we use black cars as well, our optimizing for routes, scheduling and other logistics enable us to keep our costs lower. Riders who take black car services will likely be paying for the ride themselves. With Intercity, you share the ride – and the cost of the ride – with other professionals traveling to the same city for work that day. Though you’ll be sharing a vehicle, we know that comfort still matters, which is why we have never sold a middle seat and never will. Say it with us: “No… middle… seats… EVER.”

What kind of vetting does Intercity require for drivers?2019-04-06T21:09:12+00:00

We take your safety very seriously. Drivers are required to go through a third-party vetting process with the municipalities in which they operate. This is usually the local police or sheriff’s department. We use the same vetting process as all of the top black car services in the market.

What is the cancellation policy?2019-04-06T21:10:30+00:00

We’ve found that most people plan their trips ahead of time and book Intercity travel in advance. Trip cancellations made at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure will receive a full refund – no questions asked. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds for trips cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled departure. However, in these cases, we do issue a coupon for 50% off of your next Intercity trip.

Why is Intercity better than driving myself for city-to-city transportation?2019-04-06T21:10:45+00:00

The inconvenience of driving is directly proportional to the value of your time. When you are driving, you are not doing much else. Being hostage behind the steering wheel gets more costly as the traveling distance grows. Whether you’re completing billable work, prospecting, or just getting organized, you’ll have extra hours to put yourself in a better position with your workload and work/life balance. Opportunity cost may be intangible, but it is as costly as real money out of your pocket.

In addition, if you spend those traveling hours being more productive, you’ll get to do things that you would not have otherwise gotten to when you arrive back home that evening. Your productivity – or lack of productivity – will have a domino effect. We’re here to help you stay on the profitable side of that equation.

Why is Intercity better than trains for city-to-city transportation?2019-04-06T21:10:57+00:00

The rail infrastructure in the U.S. is not only nonexistent in many places, but is aging, resulting in slower travel. Passenger trains usually take a back seat to the more profitable freight trains. This can cause delays and decreasing reliability with respect to scheduling ahead. Intercity is a better option because we take you to places where trains do not and offer more convenient and flexible scheduling. Our cars offer a more private, controlled environment as well.

Why is Intercity better than airplanes for city-to-city transportation?2019-04-06T21:11:06+00:00

Intercity focuses on transporting riders those distances that are too long to drive and too short to fly, as well as bringing them back the same day. On shorter distances, commercial air travel is more time consuming than most realize and is much less productive than being driven when you consider factors such as how long you actually get to work on your laptop or read important documents.

On a trip of 2 1/2 hours one way, you’ll only have approximately 30 minutes of actual airtime. The remaining time will be spent riding to or from the airport, waiting in any number of lines and waiting at the terminal for the flight to depart. Intercity is a real 2 1/2 hours of seamless working time. If your time is as valuable as we suspect it is, you just can’t beat that.

Why is Intercity better than Uber/Lyft for city-to-city transportation?2019-04-06T21:11:17+00:00

Intercity uses professional, thoroughly vetted drivers who are already in the business of transporting people. The experience is elevated considerably. Intercity is the only ridesharing company optimized for travel to nearby cities. All other companies are focused on travel within cities so they are not able to keep those city-to-city costs as low, just as you are not likely to find another rider going to your work location in a nearby city on the same day of your scheduled travel.

Why is Intercity better than black car services for city-to-city transportation?2019-04-06T21:11:29+00:00

Intercity is a type of black car service, but, with us, riders share the ride and the cost of the ride with other professionals, making Intercity a more affordable option while offering all the benefits of using a black car. Additionally, Intercity is powered by a free downloadable app which is easy-to-use and accessible from anywhere.
